The Vatican Observatory Guild helps to support the efforts of the Vatican Observatory in the research that it does at the forefront of several fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Together with the Steward Observatory of the University of Arizona, they are pioneering a technologically advanced telescope (VATT – Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope). Extensive improvements to this telescope are underway to increase its effectiveness in helping astronomers study the heavens. Also among its endeavors, the Vatican Observatory Guild funds a post-doctoral fellowship program in astronomy. This program, in addition to other activities, provides use of the VATT to young astronomers from around the world, especially those from developing countries.
Members of the Vatican Observatory Guild receive two newsletters each year and the Vatican Observatory's Calendar. Members will also be notified of speaking engagements in their area by astronomers from the Observatory.
